Expression of Interest: Volunteers required for SoNM Midwifery Multi-Mini Interviews 2018

From: Chantelle Khamchuang

Valid from: Thursday 20 September 2018 to Wednesday 10 October 2018

Dear all,

The Bachelor of Midwifery will be conducting interviews as part of the selection process for Bachelor of Midwifery students.

The Bachelor of Midwifery is a high demand course that can only be offered to a limited number of students due to the restricted availability of clinical places. Admission into the Bachelor of Midwifery is currently based on academic ranking alone. The use of interviews is well established for assessing non-cognitive skills such as interpersonal skills, professionalism and ethical judgement, which are all important to the practice of midwifery. It is considered that assessing these non-cognitive skills will admit individuals into the Bachelor of Midwifery degree, who will not only make excellent students, but who will ultimately become exceptional midwives.

The interviews will take the format of Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI). Due to the requirement that candidates are given an equitable and consistent experience, the candidates will be assessed in a consistent manner using the same question material, format, and assessment form and all interviewers will be trained “to ensure an appreciation of confidentiality, understand the principles of behavioural interviewing, understand how to avoid biases that influence judgement, gain confidence in asking interview questions and to be familiar with the rating scales and how to score”.

We are looking for a balanced mix of interviewers, from the local community, university staff, medical practitioners and health care professionals. If you are available and interested in volunteering, please see the attached flyer containing contact details for Expression of Interest.

We will be delighted to hear from you.
