Research study: Elbow pain

From: Ghufran Alhassani

Valid from: Friday 19 October 2018 to Thursday 15 November 2018

Do you have elbow pain?

You may be eligible to participate in our study that will explore whether brain function alters due to elbow pain.

What does the study involve?
---------------------------------------

The study will involve transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to evaluate brain activity. The technique involves a brief magnetic field that induces changes in the electrical activity of the brain directly under the stimulator. In this study you will receive either one or two TMS pulses close together but at varying intervals. The study will measure pain and function and you will be instructed to perform a motor task examining grip force and a pressure pain sensitivity test. You will be asked to complete a series of questionnaires that provide details about your beliefs and attitudes about pain, depression, anxiety and distress, details about you (e.g. age, gender) and your pain history.

You are eligible to participant if you are between 18 - 65 and:

* Have pain around one or both elbows (i.e. tennis elbow) lasting at least six weeks
* No history of epilepsy or other neurological conditions
* Not taking any central nervous system acting medications

If you are eligible, you will be required to attend one session of approximately 2 - 2.5 hours and will be reimbursed for your time.
