Mental health problems are prevalent in our community, with one in five people suffering from a mental illness (depression, anxiety, substance abuse, or other). This program aims to raise awareness of the early stages of mental health problems, as well as give you the steps and skills necessary to:

* Provide assistance to those in your work and personal environment
* Deal with a number of mental health crisis situations that may arise

A key outcome of this program is to create a safe and healthy work environment by recognising that mental illness has a significant impact upon us, our fellow colleagues, students, and also our family members and friends.

This is an internationally recognised course and a certificate of accreditation is awarded upon completion. In order to receive the MHFA Certificate it is mandatory to attend the two FULL days.

At the end of the workshops, participants will be able to:

* Recognise the signs and symptoms of developing mental health problems
* State the 5-step mental health action plan to assist those who might be experiencing mental health problems
* Demonstrate the skills necessary to implement the action plan
* Identify relevant referral services within and external to Western Sydney University
* Implement effective crisis management strategies
