Dialogues about the Digital: A Research Symposium

There is much to discuss regarding the pervasiveness of digital technologies in our increasingly data-driven society. As both a tool and an environment to explore the intricacies of everyday life, the digital is never too far away from our research inquiries. The digital infrastructures, technologies and social spaces that shape our lives are also reassembling our research practices.

There is an urgent need to critically engage with the challenges and possibilities of digitalised life, from social change, activism, ethics, and human rights to algorithms, platforms, personal safety, privacy and design. How can we better understand what people are becoming with technology? What contemporary problems are currently being intensified? What data are being generated about us and why? What kinds of tools and ideas do we need to think differently about the digital? What kinds of research practices are emergent through and with our digital devices?

Participation
----------------
Join us for this interactive symposium, which comprises of table discussions led by HDRs and ECRS, who will present key issues, problems or provocations about digitalised life and/or doing research in, on, and with the digital. In this dialogical forum, we hope to create a low pressure, welcoming space to discuss and address the nuances and complexities of digital times. The idea is to support new knowledge generation and create opportunities for collaboration around our shared digital topics of interest. Our overall aim is to foreground the diversity of our concerns and find ways to work together across our disciplines and methodologies.

For any event queries, please contact the symposium facilitators: Dr Jenna Condie at j.condie@westernsydney.edu.au or Dr Peter Bansel at p.bansel@westernsydney.edu.au
