PartnerUP: Introducing staff to student-staff partnership

From: A/Prof Tai Peseta

Valid from: Friday 10 May 2024 to Friday 31 May 2024

The WSU Student Partner team and the Engaged Teaching Project (one of the university’s newest Transformation Initiatives) are delighted to launch PartnerUP – an online program in vUWS that introduces staff – academic and professional – to the world of Student-Staff Partnership (SSP). It comprises three modules, and an activity to signal its completion:

1. Students are NOT the Customer
2. Why Partnership can be Hard
3. Doing the work of Partnership

Staff have a choice of two completion activities – one focused on the classroom as a site for engagement and partnership, and the other, on the beginning stages of a partnership project. Depending on your intention, PartnerUP should take no longer than 2 hrs to complete.

PartnerUP draws on both the extensive scholarly research about SSP, and the lived experiences of our own Western students who worked alongside staff on the 21C Project for two years to co-create a suite of Challenge Minors. The Student Partners co-created PartnerUP - a program that offers concepts, ideas, insights, practices, tools, and examples that support staff to take the first, or next step, into partnership with students.
