Title: Schema therapy – What is it and how can we best use it for individuals with eating disorders?

Presentation Summary:
ISchema therapy, developed by Jeff Young, is an intervention that integrates elements from cognitive behavioral therapy, attachment, object relations theories, Gestalt and experiential therapies. It was designed to treat people with complex disorders, and has achieved level 1 evidence for personality disorders.

Biography:
Dr Evelyn Smith is an Associate Professor in Clinical Psychology at Western Sydney University. She is a leading expert in the areas of eating disorders and obesity, having published widely in both areas. From 2016 to 2018, she led the Eating Disorders and Obesity Psychology Research Clinic (EDOC) within Western Sydney University, and now manages a small private practice where she provides treatment to individuals with eating disorders. She is an expert on schema therapy, which is an intervention that addresses core beliefs and has achieved Level 1 evidence for personality disorders.
