From: Angela MacDonald

Valid from: Tuesday 28 May 2019 to Wednesday 29 May 2019

Western will be hosting the Academic Freedom and Freedom of Speech summit in June.

The aim of the summit is to assist with the development of a University Charter on academic freedom and freedom of speech – one that is informed by a nuanced and evidence-based debate.

The summit will be introduced by Vice-Chancellor Professor Barney Glover and Associate Professor Alphia Possamai-Inesedy. Additional speakers will include Professor Sharon Bell, Dr Ben Etherington and Professor Kerry Robinson.

The event will include an overview of the French Model Code on free speech and its implications on Australian university campuses, group work on case studies and discussion by rapporteur Professor Jim Ife on the next steps forward.
